Program Name: Film Skills Ireland
Host City: Belfast
Description: Film Skills Ireland is an exciting location filming course designed and delivered by Nua Media, an independent production company based in Belfast. The course includes academic workshops at the School of Media, Film & Television at the University of Ulster (20 credit module). Up to 12 student film makers will spend one month in Northern Ireland and make short films recording their experiences of a post-conflict society. They will film in Belfast, Derry and Enniskillen. Working in teams of three, the student film makers will take on the roles of producer/director, camera operator and sound operator. Each production team will film three short documentary films. The location filming will be based on the broadcast industry standard process of making a documentary film; pre-production, production and post production. Student filmmakers will carry out primary and secondary research and each production team will then record interviews and carry out general filming on location and finally write a script and edit each film under the supervision of broadcast media professionals. The aims of the course is:- To provide students with the academic knowledge and skills to undertake an academic research project on film and television representations of Northern Ireland in a post conflict situation. - To facilitate students’ professional production skills in the creation of a short non-fiction video piece. -To provide students with the skills and knowledge to articulate an integrated approach to media theory and production in the field of documentary. Looking forward to meeting you in Northern Ireland.
