Bachelor of Fine Arts in Media Production
Media production has long been a popular choice for those who wish to exercise both their creativity and technical skills. Today, with the rapid growth of the Internet as an outlet for entertainment and information, the demand for skilled professionals in this industry is becoming even greater. In fact, the U.S. Department of Labor predicts that employment in the motion picture and video industries will grow 17 percent between 2004 and 2014, which is faster than the 14 percent growth projected for wage and salary employment in all industries combined.

The AIU Media Production program strives to provide students with both a solid academic foundation as well as industry-current skills in a variety of fields, including audio and sound recording, editing, digital design, computer animation, lighting, scriptwriting, and even directing. Graduates can be well-positioned to compete for entry-level jobs in this exciting industry.

    Challenging, Relevant Coursework
Although the emphasis throughout the program is very much on the practical aspects of media production, the academic content of the program can be equally rewarding, offering courses as diverse as European Cinema, Writing for the Media, and African-American Music History. Students are thus offered intensive practical training by industry-trained professionals as well as a stimulating and exciting academic program under the supervision of highly experienced teaching staff. Throughout the degree, practical and academic tuition are tightly interwoven.

The goals of this program are to:
  • Provide a stimulating intellectual atmosphere that exposes students to the various contexts and ever-changing nature of communication and the media world.
  • Provide educational experiences that enable students to develop the technical, analytical, communication, cross-cultural and leadership skills needed to succeed in the media industry.
  • Exercise students' intellectual faculties through critical and analytical studies of the many genres within film and television.
  • Challenge students to develop problem-solving and teamwork skills.
  • Establish internship opportunities that allow students to forge professional relationships, explore career choices, exercise judgment, utilize skills and apply theory to practice in a professional setting.
  • Offer students a rich program of co-curricular activities, such as guest speakers, forums, workshops, field trips and study tours, in order to enhance their skills and contextual knowledge.
  • Guide students in their choice of media and liberal arts classes through sound academic advice by designated course team members.
  • Establish an educational environment that presents students with challenges as well as support and that enables them to develop as individuals—creatively, technically and intellectually.
  • Maintain a well-equipped media facility that is procedurally and technologically relevant to the contemporary professional working environment.
  • Provide professional training and skills development suited to the needs and challenges of a future career.
